Formaldehyde - Bangkok

Presentation by Smit & Zoon on ‘Free and releasable formaldehyde' - BANGKOK

Formaldehyde related requirements are becoming bigger challenges for the leather industry every year. On Wednesday 9 September Smit & Zoon and their Thai agent gave a presentation on ‘free and releasable formaldehyde' in Bangkok - Thailand.

At the Bangpoo Golf Club Smit & Zoon gave a presentation on the ins and outs of formaldehyde in the leather, a group of over 45 technicians, tannery owners and chemists joined. Although many tanneries are confronted with stricter requirements from their customers formaldehyde related matters are easily misunderstood or misinterpreted. In the presentation Smit & Zoon gave insights on the background of formaldehyde, the difference between ‘free' and ‘releasable' formaldehyde, related test methods and several other formaldehyde related topics. The basic goal was to give the Thai tanners a better understanding on this complex topic, helping them to keep their leather quality on a high level.

With this presentation Smit & Zoon launched their SAFETAN range. The SAFETAN brand name reflects a group of innovative, high quality and safe retanning specialities. These products exceed the latest standards concerning free monomers (such as formaldehyde, phenol) and all restricted substance chemicals (as mentioned in restricted substance or RSL lists).
