Smit & Wageningen University intensify search for biobased leather chemicals

Since the end of last year, Smit & Zoon and Wageningen University have been working on the development of leather chemicals based on renewable sources. The search for innovative biobased products was supported by the Dutch government.

The results of the first phase of the project are very promising. Smit & Zoon and Wageningen University decided to proceed with the 2nd phase of the project in which the research efforts will be intensified. Based on the results of phase 1, our project was selected by the Dutch government as one of the few from a long list of candidates that will receive further support. We expect to develop high quality sustainable and safe alternatives for traditional leather chemicals. These products will be introduced as part of our recently introduced SAFETAN-range.
